When is Zakat due on jewelry that has reached the nisab, and then other jewelry is added to it during the hawl?
If a Muslim possesses the (minimum amount subject to ) and Allah then bestows upon him additional wealth, this second wealth falls into two categories:
First: If it is derived from the first wealth (such as business profit), then this wealth follows the hawl (zakat year) of the first wealth and does not have an independent hawl, by scholarly consensus.
Second: If it is not dependent on the first (such as a gift, salary, or inheritance), then this wealth has an independent hawl from the day of its acquisition. It is permissible to pay its zakat in advance and combine it with the first wealth.
Accordingly, the zakat on the first gold is paid when its hawl ends, and the zakat on the gifted gold is paid after one Hijri year has passed since its possession. It is permissible to pay its zakat in advance along with the first.
