Why did Almighty Allah swear by "the fig and the olive," and what is the aspect of Quranic inimitability in that?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

There is nothing by which Allah Almighty swears an oath except that it contains an indication of its merit and greatness, and draws attention to the immense power of Allah. Among these is the oath by the fig and the olive.

Among the benefits of the fig are: its richness in minerals such as iron, copper, and calcium, its high content of sugars and vitamin B, its being a stomach laxative and beneficial for constipation, its reduction of acidity, and its usefulness for pregnant women and infants.

The olive has therapeutic uses, including: chewing its leaves to treat gum and throat inflammations, and using it as a poultice on tumors. There are also many health benefits to olive oil.

And it may be that people are unaware of many times more benefits and secrets of these two trees than what they have come to know.
