Takfir (declaring someone an apostate) and tafsiq (declaring someone a transgressor) are religious rulings that should not be taken lightly, as the authority to issue such judgments belongs exclusively to Allah and His Messenger. This is due to the grave consequences of these rulings. Extreme caution is necessary before declaring a Muslim to be a disbeliever or a transgressor. Two matters must be considered: First, the evidence from the Qur'an and Sunnah that such a statement or action necessitates disbelief or transgression. Second, the applicability of this ruling to the perpetrator, with the fulfillment of all conditions and the absence of any impediments, such as ignorance, compulsion, or a valid interpretation. The danger of this lies in fabricating falsehoods against Allah, and the one who makes such an accusation may himself fall into what he attributed to his brother. Therefore, a student of knowledge should avoid delving into these matters and instead focus on seeking knowledge, taking from trustworthy scholars.
