Did the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, say to Iblis: "Praise be to Allah who made my Ummah happy and you miserable until a known day," and did Iblis reply by saying: "Far be it, far be it"?

The aforementioned Hadith (definition) about a long dialogue between the Prophet (peace be upon him) and Iblis, the accursed, is a fabricated and forged story. It is not found in the books of Sunnah (definition). Al-Khatib al-Baghdadi, Ibn al-Jawzi, and al-Suyuti mentioned it and judged it to be fabricated. Signs of its falsehood appear in several aspects, including Iblis greeting the Prophet, his claim of shyness from Uthman, the mention of verses whose reasons for revelation are not established, the presence of swearing by divorce which was not known at that time, the Prophet offering repentance to Iblis, and Iblis’s glorification of Allah at the end of the Hadith. Sheikh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah affirmed that the Hadith is fabricated and concocted, and it is impermissible to narrate it from the Prophet (peace be upon him). He stated that any correct words within it were gathered from other Ahadith, while the original story itself is false and has not been transmitted by any Muslim scholar.
