What is the meaning of love in God? Is it that we love others and hate them according to the extent of their proximity to obedience to God or disobedience to Him, without personal interests? Is this what is meant by the Hadith Qudsi: "Allah will say on the Day of Resurrection: 'Where are those who loved each other for My glory? Today I will shelter them in My shade, a day when there is no shade but My shade'"?

The reality of love for the sake of Allah is that a Muslim loves his brother for his uprightness, his obedience to Allah, his sincerity, and his commitment to the religion, not for kinship, benefit, or admiration of appearance. And the existence of love for another reason does not detract from it. As for hatred for the sake of Allah, its meaning is hating a person for his disbelief or disobedience to Allah Almighty, not for a personal offense or enmity.
