What does it mean for Allah to abandon a servant to himself, and is there an authentic Hadith that contains a supplication seeking refuge with Allah from this?

The supplication of the distressed is: "O Allah, I hope for Your mercy, so do not abandon me to my own self for the blink of an eye, and set all my affairs right for me. There is no god but You." As it was mentioned in the supplication of Fatimah: "O Ever-Living, O Self-Subsisting, by Your mercy I seek assistance, set all my affairs right for me, and do not abandon me to my own self for the blink of an eye." The meaning of "do not abandon me to my own self for the blink of an eye" is: do not cease Your help for me and do not entrust my affairs to myself, for it is a request for God's help at every moment. This does not contradict the fact that He is the Ever-Living, the Self-Subsisting; rather, it is a request for His continuous aid.
