The answer

A thayyib (previously married woman) is she who has experienced intercourse, whether lawful or unlawful. As long as she has not experienced intercourse, she is a bikr (virgin). If a woman is divorced after khalwah (seclusion) but before dukhool (consummation), she must observe the iddah (waiting period), but she is still considered a bikr in matters of marriage unless her virginity has been lost. Khalwah does not take the place of intercourse in causing the loss of virginity. The intercourse considered to cause the loss of virginity is the insertion of the glans into the vagina.
