Why is Sheikh Muhammad ibn Abd al-Wahhab fought against and extensively discussed, and why are his followers called Wahhabis?

The trials faced by prophets and callers to Islam are a divine tradition. Sheikh Muhammad ibn Abd al-Wahhab received his share of slanders and false accusations, such as claims of prophethood or declaring the Muslim community to be disbelievers (takfir al-ummah). These accusations came from the enemies of the Dawah, who sought to tarnish his image and impede the spread of Tawhid, just as happened with the Prophet, peace be upon him. Naming his followers "Wahhabis" is an attempt to turn people away from the call to truth, while the correct name is "Muhammadi," in reference to his name Muhammad. "Al-Wahhab" is one of Allah's Most Beautiful Names, meaning the Bestower of Gifts. Ultimately, the truth is evident in the Sheikh's own books, and whoever seeks the truth should refer to them.
