Does a husband's working as a hired hand for his wife violate the condition of Qawamah?

There is no objection to the husband working as an employee for his wife, and this does not affect his guardianship over her, because common practice permits this, and it may lead to legitimate benefits, such as the need for a wealthy woman to have someone manage her money without interacting with men. This does not contradict guardianship, just as a wife's spending on her husband does not contradict it, even though Allah Almighty made spending one of the requirements of guardianship in His saying: {Men are in charge of women by [right of] what Allah has given one over the other and by [right of] what they spend from their wealth}. And it is permissible for the wife to give her zakat (definition) to her poor husband.
