Will a person who has mountains of good deeds but consumes ill-gotten wealth enter the Fire, knowing that the Messenger, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, informed us that whoever consumes ill-gotten wealth, the Fire is more befitting for him?

It cannot be definitively stated that a specific person possesses mountains of good deeds, because the acceptance of acts of obedience is a matter of the unseen. Allah Almighty has mentioned that among the characteristics of the pious is their fear that their acts of obedience may not be accepted. It was narrated from Aisha, may Allah be pleased with her, in interpretation of the verse: (And those who give what they give while their hearts are trembling because they know that they will return to their Lord) that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "It is not he who steals, commits adultery, and drinks wine while fearing Allah, but rather he who prays, fasts, and gives charity while fearing Allah, the Mighty and Majestic." As for consuming unlawful wealth, severe warnings have been mentioned concerning it, such as the saying of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him: "Every body that is nourished by unlawful earnings, the Fire is more deserving of it." However, this warning does not include one who repents with sincere repentance, or one who has a reason that expiates his sin, such as satisfying his adversary or receiving intercession.
