"Is my fasting and giving charity valid if fluid came out of me at night in Ramadan and I didn't know if it was prostatic fluid (madhi) or semen (mani), then I performed a minor ablution (wudu) and fasted, and after Ramadan I gave charity to sixty poor people as atonement (kaffara)? "

"The expiation that the questioner has offered is not obligatory for her, nor is it required of her legally, because that which necessitates it did not occur on her part. For the expiation for breaking the fast in Ramadan is only obligatory if the breaking of the fast is due to sexual intercourse during the day in Ramadan, and it is in the following order: freeing a slave; if that is not possible, then fasting two consecutive months; if that is not possible, then feeding sixty poor people. The expiation is not obligatory merely due to the emission of semen without intercourse, even if it occurred during the day in Ramadan, nor is it obligatory due to the emission of pre-ejaculatory fluid according to the sound opinion. The questioner’s fasting is valid, whether what came out of her was semen or pre-ejaculatory fluid, because it came out of her at night and not during the day while fasting, and the emission of semen at night does not invalidate the fast. What is obligatory for her is to repent to Allah Almighty from her conversations and friendship with that man, because it is forbidden for a woman to have a friendship with a man who is not related to her.
