Which is better: interpreting a dream or reciting the Quran, especially if the process of searching for the dream's interpretation takes a long time?
It is better not to seek interpretations of dreams and to busy oneself with worship and knowledge instead. Dreams are of three types: a good dream, which is glad tidings from Allah; a ' حديث نفس' (self--narration) which is from what the dreamer is concerned about; and a frightening dream from Satan. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, guided us on how to deal with dreams: if a dream is good, one should tell it to those whom he loves; and if it is disliked, he should seek refuge in Allah from Satan and from the evil of what he saw, spit drily to his left three times, not tell anyone about it, turn over from the side he was sleeping on, and stand up to pray.
