Is paying money to a mediator to find a job considered unlawful?

It is permissible to use an intermediary to help obtain a permissible job, unless their intercession leads to depriving someone more deserving of the position; otherwise, the mediation would be forbidden. As for giving money to the intercessor, it is permissible if they exert effort in searching for the job, similar to employment agencies. However, if they do not exert effort and rely on their influence, this is known as "the price of influence" (thaman al-jah), which is a point of contention among jurists regarding its permissibility or prohibition. Some jurists have permitted it if it is in return for a permissible effort. If a person has a right to a job and cannot obtain it except by paying a bribe, it is permissible for them to do so.
