Why does Allah hold us accountable for actions that He has decreed for us, when it is He who has destined for us misery or happiness, while we fear that we might have been destined for the dwellers of the Fire?

A true believer possesses principles and controls that enable him to deal with ambiguities by referring the ambiguous to the clear. Faith has irrefutable proofs that are not shaken merely by a problem whose answer is elusive. In matters of divine decree (Qada') and destiny (Qadar), the principle is to believe in Allah's knowledge, wisdom, justice, and mercy. The ambiguity lies in combining Allah's decree with the servant's choice, which is a divine secret. The believer does not depart from Allah's divine decree and destiny, yet affirms a choice for himself that validates accountability and reward. He must strive and work, and not rely on an unknown destiny.
