Is a truly repentant person like one who has never sinned? Is remembering a sin intensely after repentance a good or bad sign? Is a repentant sinner considered righteous again? Is the inability to overcome sadness over a sin a good sign or an act of harshness towards oneself?

The one who said, "The one who repents from sin is like one who has no sin" is the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, and his words are true in their essence. A repentant person will not be punished for his sin, neither by religious law nor by divine decree. Remembering a sin, if it motivates obedience, then it is good. However, if it leads to despair and hopelessness, then one must turn away from it. Exaggerating in remembering a sin can prevent one from performing acts of obedience. The correct approach is to recall Allah's mercy and forgiveness and to resume life with vigor, as if the sin never occurred, if that is more beneficial and helpful for worship.
