How is agricultural land divided among heirs: by length, by width, or by area?

The divisions of a shared property are of three types: Muhaya'ah (alternating use), Muradah (mutual agreement), and Qur'ah (lottery). If the shared land has equal parts in value, it is divided according to each partner's share. This is permissible in Shariah and depends on the partners' interest and the advice of experts. However, if its parts vary in value, or if it is so small that division would negate its benefit, then either it is sold and its value distributed, or some partners take it and compensate the others, or they all utilize it and share its yield.
