Did the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, issue any statement concerning the verse: "Hayfa المقبلة, Ajza al-Mudbira No shortness is complained of her, nor length," which Kab ibn Zuhayr recited? And what is the interpretation of his silence if he said nothing; was it an affirmation of such ghazal (love poetry), or did he not wish to discourage Kab?

Scholars have permitted the poetic expression of love (taghazzul) for an unspecified woman, provided it is free from indecency and vulgar language. They based this on the Prophet's (peace be upon him) listening to the poetry of Ka'b and others, which included amorous descriptions of an unspecified woman without him denouncing it. Examples include Ka'b's verse: "Su'ad has departed, and my heart today is consumed," and Hassan's verse: "A graceful maiden captivated your heart in a dream." However, expressing love for a specific woman, describing forbidden wine, or slandering a Muslim or a Dhimmi (non-Muslim under protection) is not permissible.
