What should one do who avoids controversial matters that you have declared forbidden (such as covering the face and hands, and masturbation), but doubts your retraction or future alteration of the prohibition, which makes him feel hardship without benefit? And does the verse {Allah does not burden a soul beyond its scope} apply to these matters, given that the person suffers from OCD?

The layman imitates scholars whom he trusts in their knowledge and piety. If he asks a trustworthy scholar, he acts upon his fatwa, and this is what Allah has obligated him to do. The layman is not obligated to delve into investigation and deduction. His conscience is absolved before Allah by imitating a trustworthy scholar and acting upon his fatwa, because he has done what is required of him, in accordance with the Almighty’s saying: "So ask the people of the message if you do not know."
