What is the report transmitted from the Salaf concerning the polytheists' affirmation of Allah's Lordship during the time of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him?

Allah Almighty mentioned that the polytheists at the time of the Prophet, peace be upon him, affirmed the Oneness of Lordship (Tawhid al-Rububiyyah), citing His saying: ﴿And if you ask them who created the heavens and the earth, they will surely say, "Allah."﴾ [Luqman: 25]. Ibn Kathir clarified that the polytheists acknowledged Allah as the Creator, the Provider, the Disposer of affairs, questioning: If that is the case, then why is anyone else worshipped? He also quoted Ibn Abbas, Mujahid, and others in their interpretation of His saying: ﴿And most of them do not believe in Allah except while they associate others with Him.﴾ [Yusuf: 106], explaining that their belief was in their acknowledgment of Allah's creation of the heavens, the earth, and the mountains, despite their associating partners with Him.
