If a menstruating woman in a state of major ritual impurity (junub) wishes to recite the Quran, she must first perform the purificatory bath (ghusl) for major ritual impurity. This removes the ruling of major ritual impurity, and she remains in a state of menstruation. If she performs ghusl for major ritual impurity, then it becomes permissible for her to recite the Quran. It is worth noting that some scholars hold the view that it is permissible for a menstruating woman to recite the Quran without ghusl, whether she is in a state of major ritual impurity or not.
