Is obedience due to a mother who neglected her abusive daughter, and whom the daughter refused to communicate with after her abuse?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

It is obligatory for the wife to be dutiful to her mother, and it is not permissible for her to abandon her, no matter what her condition, even if she is a polytheist and commands her child to commit shirk, in accordance with the Almighty's saying: "But if they endeavor to make you associate with Me that of which you have no knowledge, do not obey them but accompany them in [this] world with appropriate kindness." Dutifulness to the mother is more emphasized than dutifulness to the father, for the mother receives three-quarters of the dutifulness, as stated in the noble Hadith. Therefore, the wife must strive and maintain ties with her mother and treat her kindly, in obedience to Allah.
