What is the ruling on a Muslim residing in the lands of the disbelievers with his wife, and does the hadith: "I am innocent of whoever lives among the polytheists" apply to him?

The Hadith: "I am free of any Muslim who resides among polytheists" is authentic, and it applies to those who do not feel secure in their religion. Therefore, it is not forbidden for someone who feels secure in himself and his religion, and is able to practice his religious rituals, to reside in non-Muslim countries, even though it is better to live among Muslims. The questioner is advised to bring his wife to be a helper for him in obedience and to avoid temptations. However, if he fears temptation in his religion or is unable to practice his rituals, he must emigrate to Muslim countries.
