What is the Sharia ruling on a husband remaining with his wife who has repented and shown remorse, while his parents refuse to forgive her and have threatened to disown him if he does not divorce her?

If your wife's backbiting of your family is confirmed, she must repent. You are not obligated to obey your parents by divorcing her if her situation becomes upright. You must strive to reconcile between your wife and your family, and accept her apology. Spying or listening to gossip is forbidden. You should continue to advise her regarding her hijab, instill fear of Allah, and be gentle in your counsel. We also advise you to emigrate to a Muslim country if there is no necessity to reside in a land of disbelief. A wife must obey her husband if he forbids her from working and he is providing for her, unless she stipulated working before the marriage contract and the work does not involve anything forbidden.
