Is a girl considered disobedient if she refuses to go with her father to America and prefers to stay in her country with one of her relatives? And is her destroying her American passport or renouncing her citizenship, despite her father's disapproval of that, considered a disobedience to her parents' command? And does she have the right to refuse to reside in a foreign country that she does not wish to live in?

Filial piety and kindness to one's parents are among the most emphasized duties in Islam. However, obedience to them is not obligatory in matters involving prohibitions or following them in committing evil. If the questioner cannot perform the rituals of her religion or fears apostasy for herself in a land of disbelief, then it is not permissible for her to reside there. If her father orders her to do so, obedience is not obligatory, and this is not considered disobedience, for obedience is only due in what is good, and there is no obedience to a creature in defiance of the Creator.
