Was iron found on Earth since its creation, or did it descend from the heavens, as stated in His Almighty's saying: (And We sent down iron, in which there is great might and [many] benefits for mankind)?

Scholars have differed regarding the meaning of the descent of iron in the verse: (وَأَنْزَلْنَا الْحَدِيدَ - "And We sent down iron"). Some have suggested that it was sent down with Adam, along with an anvil, two tongs, and a hammer, or that "We sent down" means "We originated and created." However, Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah believes that none of what has been mentioned constitutes sufficient proof, and that the intended meaning of descent is its literal sense. Iron was sent down to the earth and was not originally part of it. This interpretation is consistent with the Qur'an, which was revealed in the Arabic language, and Arabs understand descent only in this sense.
