If the author mentions books that were not beneficial to his research, merely for the sake of increasing the number, then this is an impermissible lie. However, if he mentions the books from which he benefited in his research, even if he did not quote texts from them, then this is permissible. The important thing is that the list should only contain sources from which quotations were taken or which were consulted and referenced. Mentioning books unrelated to the research merely for fame and exaggeration is considered a lie and deception.
