What is the meaning of verse 189 from Surat Al-A'raf, and is the مخاطَب (one being addressed) in it our master Adam, peace be upon him?

The noble verse is an address to humankind, intending the polytheists among the descendants of Adam, and not Adam and Eve. Ibn Kathir weakened the narrations indicating that Adam and Eve were the addressed parties and favored the interpretation of Al-Hasan Al-Basri.
