The question

What are the actions that can be taken to enhance the responsiveness of supplication for the sick, such as supererogatory prayers (nawafil), charity (sadaqa), and seeking forgiveness (istighfar)? And does performing supererogatory prayers with the aim of seeking a response contradict sincerity to Allah?

The answer

We ask Allah to grant your brother healing and well-being, and you will be rewarded for your diligent supplication for him. Strive to supplicate during times when prayers are answered, such as during prostration, in the last third of the night, on the Day of Arafah, and on Laylat al-Qadr. Also, give generously in charity. If you perform an act of obedience with the intention of seeking healing for the sick and for the sake of Allah, this does not harm sincerity, even though it is better to dedicate worship purely to Allah while increasing supplications.
