Is it permissible to split the rak’ahs of Witr so that two rak’ahs are prayed after ‘Ishā’, and the third is completed in the last third of the night, and what should be done if one is unable to complete the last rak’ah?

Witr prayer is a confirmed Sunnah. Its minimum is one rak'ah, and it is permissible to increase it to three, five, seven, or nine rak'ahs. There are two legitimate ways to perform Witr with three rak'ahs: The first is to perform the three consecutively with one tashahhud. The second is to perform salutations after two rak'ahs, then perform one more rak'ah for Witr. If the time for Witr prayer becomes constricted at the end of the night, or if it is missed due to forgetfulness or sleep, a Muslim should pray it before Fajr prayer if possible. If it is missed, it should be made up during the Duha (forenoon) time as an even number of rak'ahs. So, if one rak'ah of Witr was missed, it should be made up as two rak'ahs. If three rak'ahs were missed, they should be made up as four rak'ahs with two salutations.
