How can one respond to the slanders of those who impugn Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, and who cite his marriage to Aisha while she was young, and the incident of Mariya in Hafsa's bed, to disparage his character?
We thank you for supporting the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him. Allah has threatened those who harm him with curses and severe punishment. Regarding his marriage to Aisha, may Allah be pleased with her: he contracted her when she was six years old, but did not consummate the marriage until she had grown and blossomed into a beautiful young woman. She used to boast about this, which indicates that she had become capable of sexual intercourse. As for Maria al-Qibtiyya, may Allah be pleased with her, the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, enjoyed her company because she was his slave-girl. Hafsa's jealousy was natural, and his apology to her was a sign of his good character. There is no religious prohibition for him to enjoy his slave-girl.
