Does the divorced wife's inability to forgive her husband's other wife, her mother-in-law, and her husband's sister—due to their mistreatment of her and their role in her divorce—indicate a hardened heart? And will Allah delay answering her prayer for mending her brokenness and for her husband's return until she forgives them? And what if she is unable to forgive?

Forgiveness is beloved by Allah the Almighty, and it is more befitting for one who is capable than revenge. The desire for revenge and the refusal to forgive are not necessarily indicators of a hardened heart, for a hardened heart has other signs, such as being weakly affected by the Quran. However, these negative feelings can cause the heart to harden. Forgiveness is among the noblest of virtues, acquired through spiritual struggle and by knowing its reward and merit. The prayer of the wronged against their oppressor is answered if the conditions are met and impediments are removed, such as sincerity in supplication, not rushing the answer, and not supplicating for more than the oppressor deserves. The answering of prayer is a matter of the unseen, and it may be by fulfilling the request, averting harm, or saving it for the hereafter.
