A husband should not divorce his wife merely because his parents command it, unless they have a valid reason, and divorcing the wife is not an act of showing dutifulness to the mother. If the husband or his family mistreats her, this contradicts good marital conduct. It is advisable for wise people to intervene for reconciliation. If a divorce occurs, the wife is entitled to all her rights, such as the deferred dowry, and it is not permissible to deprive her of it unless she voluntarily waives it. A wife leaving the home without her husband's permission is considered an act of defiance (nushooz), unless it is out of fear of harm.
