Is divorce considered a solution for escalating marital problems that have led to the deterioration of the marital relationship, the husband's bad behavior, and its impact on the wife and her psychological well-being?
A husband must treat his wife well. If the wife is harmed by his ill-manners, she is permitted to seek divorce, but patience and supplicating for his guidance are more befitting. A wife is not permitted to leave her husband’s house without his permission, unless there is a legitimate excuse; otherwise, she is considered disobedient (nashiz) and loses her right to maintenance. Suicide is forbidden in Islamic law and results in the loss of this world and the Hereafter. A husband is not legally obligated to take his wife to her family, and the husband’s brother is a non- to her, so she is not permitted to ride with him alone. A husband divorcing his wife during a period of purity in which he had intercourse with her is considered an innovated divorce ( bid'i) and is valid according to the most prevalent opinion. Understanding should prevail between spouses, and each should overlook the other’s slip-ups. Smoking is forbidden, and its user should be advised.
