Is it permissible to benefit from the free health insurance provided by the employer?
Health insurance contracts are forbidden in Islamic law. It is not permissible to enter into them or to approve them, and they must be terminated. Whoever entered into such a contract out of ignorance and then repented, must terminate it, and it is not permissible for him to take more than his original invested capital. As for an employee or worker entering into a contract with an institution that handles health insurance on his behalf, this is not permissible, even if he does not pay anything, because it involves consenting to and approving forbidden insurance. However, if the institution insures the worker without any condition from him, there is no objection to the worker benefiting to the extent that the institution has paid to the insurance company.
