What is the ruling on rejoicing at the misfortunes of an oppressive Muslim, a belligerent disbeliever, and a non-belligerent disbeliever, and rejoicing at their deaths, and displaying this publicly? And have the scholars reached a consensus on the prohibition of gloating and rejoicing at the misfortunes of a non-oppressive Muslim?

Joy at calamities is tied to their cause. If it is due to something beloved by Allah, then it is praiseworthy; otherwise, it is blameworthy. It is permissible to rejoice at calamities that befall disbelievers and oppressors if it reduces their corruption or benefits Muslims, based on the hadith, "Relieved and one from whom relief is gained," and the supplications of the prophets against their peoples. This does not contradict natural sorrow for the afflicted, or standing for the funeral of a non-Muslim out of humanity. As for rejoicing at calamities that befall a Muslim who is not an oppressor, it is blameworthy and a characteristic of hypocrites, and a sign of weak faith. A believer does not wish for his brother except what he wishes for himself.
