To what extent are the sayings true which discuss the story of Safa and Marwah as dating back to the time of Noah (peace be upon him), and that they were two stones into which a young man and a girl who committed fornication at the Kaaba were transformed, and likewise considering the forgetting of any word from the Qur’an to be a distortion, and that every letter and vowel mark has its own special angel, and that forgetting a vowel mark or changing its place is considered changing the places of angels and polytheism with God?

Safa and Marwa are two well-known mountains in Makkah, and they are among the rituals of Hajj and Umrah (definition). Ismael’s mother ascended them in search of water. Some historians believe that the origin of their names comes from a man and a woman, Isaf and Na’ila, who committed indecency in the Kaaba, so Allah transformed them into two stones. People then placed them near the House as a warning, and later they were worshipped instead of Allah during the time of Khuza’a. Quraish then placed these two stones on Safa and Marwa and worshipped them. However, this story does not confirm that Safa and Marwa originated from two transformed humans; rather, the two transformed stones were placed on the two mountains. As for what was mentioned about a forgotten word from the Qur’an and the matter of the angel, there is no basis for it.
