How can a 17-year-old young man whom Allah has guided, and who is not knowledgeable in matters of his religion, remain steadfast in faith and avoid temptations, especially when his family does not pray and mocks him when he reminds them of Allah?
Guidance, like sustenance, is attained by striving for it and by struggling in the way of Allah. Among the causes of guidance and its perpetuation are abandoning what contradicts it, opposing the self and Satan, and performing good deeds. Countering harm from family members should be done with patience and by supplicating for their guidance, inviting them with that which is best, and with good manners. Among the greatest causes for steadfastness upon guidance and truth are fulfilling the commands of Allah and His Messenger, for Allah “strengthens those who believe with the firm word in the worldly life and in the Hereafter.” We advise seeking righteous companionship that aids in obedience.
