How do we reconcile the Hadith: "Shaytan has despaired that the worshippers in the Arabian Peninsula will worship him," with the Hadith: "The night and day will not pass until Al-Lat and Al-Uzza are worshipped," or "until the buttocks of the women of Daws sway at Dhu al-Khalasah"?

Shirk (polytheism/associating partners with Allah) has occurred in this Ummah. Most Arabs apostatized after the death of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and many of them returned to idol worship. Regarding his saying, peace and blessings be upon him: "Indeed, Satan has despaired of being worshipped by those who pray," scholars have offered several answers, including: that Satan has despaired of uniting all those who pray upon disbelief, or that the hadith informs about Satan's conjecture and expectation regarding his despair, or that Satan has despaired of those believers whose faith is complete, or that "those who pray" refers to the Companions. All these statements are close, and the second is the closest.
