How can one reconcile the Hadith, "Each nation will follow what it used to worship" on the Day of Resurrection, with the statements of idols and طاغوت (false deities): "Nay, but they will deny their worship of them, and become antagonists against them" (Qur’an 19:82), and "Call upon My 'partners' whom you claimed, and they called upon them, but they did not respond to them" (Qur’an 18:52), and "They have forsaken us; nay, we did not used to invoke anything before (them)" (Qur’an 40:74)?

The stages of the Day of Judgment are numerous, beginning with the Resurrection, then the gathering for the reckoning and the lengthy standing therein, followed by the reckoning and the Scales, the flying open of the scrolls, and the gathering of the disbelievers to the Fire. Then comes the crossing of the Bridge by the people of Islam, and finally, people taking their assigned places in either Paradise or Hell. On the Day of Judgment, people will be distinguished according to their objects of worship. The disbelievers will be held accountable and blamed for their disbelief, and the proof will be established against them before they are driven to the Fire. Their worshipped deities will disown their worshippers, while the disbelievers will claim to have followed them. After entering the Fire, the disbelievers will acknowledge their misguidance and their despair regarding their worshipped deities.
