The blood money (diyya) for a woman is half that of a man, and this is a matter on which there is scholarly consensus (ijma'). This consensus has been reported by Ibn al-Mundhir, al-Shafi'i, and others. Consensus is considered the third source of legislation, and its authority is established by Qur'anic and prophetic evidence, including the Almighty's saying: "And whoever opposes the Messenger after guidance has become clear to him and follows other than the way of the believers - We will give him what he has taken and drive him into Hell, and evil it is as a destination," and the Prophet's (peace be upon him) saying: "This Ummah will not agree upon error."
