How can a Circassian girl be married to a foreign man whose religion and character are unknown, taking into account the particularity of Circassian society, and has the previous fatwa regarding this matter been misused to excommunicate Circassians?

In Islam, preference is based on faith (Iman) and piety (Taqwa); there is no distinction between Arab and non-Arab, or white and black, except through piety. The Prophet (peace be upon him) married Zaynab bint Jahsh al-Asadiyyah to Zayd ibn Harithah, his freed slave. He also married Fatimah bint Qays al-Qurashiyyah to Usamah, and both he and his father were freed slaves. The Prophet's saying, "If someone comes to you whose religion and character you approve, then marry [your daughter] to him. If you do not do so, there will be tribulation on earth and great corruption," is understood as a recommendation. A person is not obliged to marry off [their daughter] to a suitor even if he is pleasing in his religion and character. It is sufficient that no deviation in his religion or conduct is known about the suitor.
