Is "Yasin" the name of a Messenger, what is the story of Aal Yasin (Yasin), and what is the virtue of Surat Yasin?
We have not come across a messenger named "Ya-Seen" (يس) with just two letters like that. Attributing this name to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, is incorrect. As for "Yasin" (ياسين) as written in the Mus'haf, it is the name of a messenger from among Allah's messengers, and he is Ilyas. And "Aal Yasin" (آل ياسين) refers to the people of Ilyas who followed him. The story of Ilyas, peace be upon him, is mentioned in Surat As-Saffat, where he called his people to abandon the worship of Baal and to affirm the Oneness of Allah, but they disbelieved him. As for the Ahadith (narrations) regarding the virtues of Surat Yasin, the verifiers among the scholars have judged their chains of transmission to be weak.
