What is the ruling on suicide due to difficult living conditions and severe tribulation, and is the one who patiently endures the tribulation with which he has been afflicted rewarded?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

Suicide is one of the gravest sins, and its perpetrator is threatened with eternal damnation in Hellfire, and will be tormented by the very means he used to commit suicide. A believer must exercise patience and seek help from Allah, for tribulation is a universal law, and if a believer handles it well, it will be good for him and an expiation for his sins. However, if the suicide was due to a mental illness that affected the mind to the extent that it lost its faculties, then the person who committed suicide is not considered sinful in this case, due to the presence of an impediment to accountability, which is the loss of sanity.
