It is disliked to make vows due to the potential for embarrassment and failure to fulfill them. If the vow is to abandon unlawful singing, it is not considered binding according to the majority of scholars, as it is already an obligation (tahsil al-hasel). A vow is only binding if it involves a recommended act of worship. However, the Hanbalis are of the view that such a vow is binding, and whoever violates it must pay an expiation for breaking an oath. Therefore, one must repent, feel remorse, seek forgiveness, and offer expiation for violating the vow. What afflicts a person or their children may be a punishment or a trial, so one must repent, be patient, and take measures for prevention and treatment.
