What is the benefit of our worship of God if that is the wisdom behind His creation of us?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

Allah created humankind in this world for trial and test, and made patience upon it a path to reward and expiation of sins, for the believer's entire affair is good. The fundamental wisdom behind the creation of jinn and humankind is worship, as Allah Almighty says: ﴿And I did not create the jinn and humankind except to worship Me﴾ (Adh-Dhariyat: 56). And humankind is poor before Allah, in need of His worship. Allah is characterized by absolute perfection, and His creation of the universe and the manifestation of His names and attributes in His creatures are proof of His perfection. Humankind cannot encompass Allah's perfection and wisdom and must submit and yield to what is hidden from them. Worship is of two types: compulsory, forced worship, which everyone acknowledges, and voluntary worship, which elevates a person and makes him a chosen servant of Allah. This obligation contains elevation and honor for humankind and distinguishes them. The manifestation of Allah's perfections in His creation does not mean His need for creation; rather, it is a result of His perfection. Allah Almighty honored humankind and created them for Himself, subjugated everything to them, and made reward and punishment centered around the human species, which is the essence of creation.
