Reducing sins is achieved by refraining from committing them and staying away from their causes, in addition to promptly repenting for those that have occurred, while also increasing good deeds that erase evil ones. As for preserving good deeds, it is done by avoiding their nullifiers, such as backbiting and envy, as sins indeed nullify good deeds.
