Is a wife's refusal to have sexual intercourse due to her husband's refusal to procreate—because of his poor financial situation and excessive debts—unlawful (haram) or permissible (halal), and is the husband's refusal to procreate in this situation unlawful (haram) or permissible (halal)?

Refusal of procreation by one of the spouses is not permissible without the other's consent. Delaying it out of fear of poverty is not appropriate, for Allah may open the gates of His mercy and provide sustenance because of children. A wife's refusal to share the bed for the reason of delaying procreation is not legally justifiable, and she must respond to her husband unless there is a legitimate impediment preventing her. Both spouses must understand each other and observe the rulings of Sharia to ensure marital happiness.
