Is it permissible to marry a girl who has recently embraced Islam without the knowledge of her non-Muslim family, given her fear of them cutting off her financial support? Is polygyny permissible only in cases of marital problems, or is it permissible even when the first marital relationship is stable? Is marrying a second wife considered a sin if it leads to problems?
Calling to Islam is the function of the prophets, and the caller must be insightful. The issue of a relationship with a foreign girl is a reprehensible act that must be abandoned. The girl can be invited to Islam through a reliable intermediary or through female callers, for guidance is better than red camels [a metaphor for the greatest worldly possessions].
The Muslim caller must stop any forbidden relationship, then strive for a lawful marriage. If that is not possible, then he has been safe from the footsteps of Satan. The fear of Allah's standing and restraining the self from desires lead to Paradise. True courage lies in lowering the gaze and abandoning what is forbidden, and the greatest weakness is in matters concerning women.
If the girl converts to Islam, it is permissible to marry her, and her Muslim guardian or the Muslim judge marries her off. If she is a chaste woman of the People of the Book, it is permissible to marry her with her disbelieving guardian. If her guardian refuses, it is permissible for her closest male relatives or the Muslim ruler [to marry her off]. If she is neither a Muslim nor a woman of the People of the Book, it is not permissible to marry her.
Polygyny is permissible if financial and physical ability and justice are available. The dislike of the first wife is not a condition, and it may be better than limiting oneself to one wife.
One must weigh the benefits and harms resulting from a second marriage and be rational in making the decision. If the husband fears problems, he should delay, for trustworthiness is better than everything, and there are many women.
There is no harm in marrying a second wife if the husband fears hardship, and a person knows his own situation best.
