Will God hold the questioner accountable for having an illicit relationship, despite its termination?
A woman's relationship with a man outside the framework of a legitimate marriage is denounced and considered fornication in the general sense, as stated in the Hadith: "Indeed, Allah has decreed for the son of Adam his share of fornication, which he will inevitably attain. The fornication of the eyes is looking, the fornication of the tongue is speaking, and the soul yearns and desires, while the private parts confirm or deny that." This relationship may also be a cause for delayed marriage, as the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "Indeed, a servant is deprived of provision because of a sin he commits." Therefore, sincere repentance to Allah is obligatory, and remorse is a good step towards repentance, for one who repents from sin is like one who has no sin.
