Zakat is not obligatory on gold designated for adornment, even if there is an intention to sell it due to need. However, it becomes obligatory if the intention changes, and it is prepared for unforeseen circumstances. So, if your intention changes to selling the gold, and this intention becomes firm, and its weight reaches 85 grams or more, then zakat of 2.5% becomes obligatory on it after the completion of one lunar year from the change of intention. But if it is less than that and does not reach the nisab, or decreases below it during the year, then there is no zakat on it.
